“The Body Liberation Project” isn’t about looking in the mirror and loving everything you see. Body liberation is about looking in the mirror and understanding that we are more than our bodies.”

The book “The Body Liberation Project” by Chrissy King has honestly been one of the most life-changing reads of my life. If you are a woman in America, it’s pretty much impossible to escape the intractable impact that diet culture has had on the psyche of all of us. Depending on your race & ethnicity, the complexion of your skin, or the color of your hair and eyes – its impact could be lessened or heighted. Our culture is obsessed with thinness, and whiteness. We are indoctrinated from the time we are young that you’re attractive and have more value, if you’re skinny. Many of us are in a constant battle to get skinny, eat less, lose weight – and exercise or diet our way to a body that is more socially acceptable and contrary to the natural form of the body we have.
“The Body Liberation Project” delves into the intersections of body liberation with feminism, race, and weight discrimination. King discusses the ways in which various marginalized groups face unique challenges in society and suggests ways to create a more inclusive and accepting society. While loving yourself is important, the idea of body liberation suggests that simply loving yourself isn’t enough. King explores various aspects of body liberation, focusing on issues such as body shame, diet culture, and the societal pressures placed on women’s bodies.
“The Body Liberation Project” isn’t about looking in the mirror and loving everything you see. Body liberation is about looking in the mirror and understanding that we are more than our bodies.”
Through personal anecdotes and expert advice, King encourages readers to challenge societal norms and embrace their bodies in all their forms.
Overall, the book aims to empower readers to break free from harmful body standards and embrace their bodies as they are, promoting self-acceptance, confidence, and a healthier relationship with oneself and others.
