I drink a morning smoothie almost daily. Not as a meal substitute (because I don’t skip meals), but as part of a healthy breakfast. I make a kefir-spinach smoothie for gut health. If you’ve never heard of kefir, it’s a fermented dairy drink (non-dairy options are available) that is made by adding colonies of yeast and lactic-acid bacteria. In simple terms, it is a very powerful liquid probiotic. Kefir has a number of health benefits. It improves bone health and lowers one’s risk of osteoporosis, stimulates the immune system and inhibits cancer cell growth, alleviates digestive issues such as diarrhea, ulcers due to h. Pylori, and irritable bowel syndrome, and reduces the body’s inflammatory response to allergy and asthma triggers.
